Before you leave the terminal
Two things to check first.
Entry and visas
The same UAE entry rules apply as at DXB: you clear immigration to leave the terminal and again to return. Many nationalities receive a visa on arrival or visa-free entry; others need a visa in advance. Check the official UAE entry rules or your airline before you travel. Queues at DWC are usually shorter than at DXB, but allow time on both sides.
Transfers and timing
Typical journey times from DWC: Dubai Marina, JBR and the Palm around 30 to 40 minutes, Downtown 40 to 50 minutes, the desert camps to the south-east 45 to 60 minutes. Fewer airlines use DWC, so check which terminal you arrive at before booking a transfer. The transfer is not included in any listing: book it separately. Taxis are available outside arrivals; a pre-booked car or ride-hailing is the reliable option for the return, as there is no metro link. Be back at the terminal at least 90 minutes before departure.

Can I leave Al Maktoum airport during a layover?
Yes, under the same UAE entry rules as DXB. Queues at DWC are usually shorter, which helps, but the drive into central Dubai is longer, so leave promptly and keep the 90-minute return buffer.
How far is DWC from Dubai Marina and Downtown?
Roughly 30 to 40 minutes to the Marina and the Palm, 40 to 50 minutes to Downtown, outside rush hour. Book your transfer separately; a pre-booked car or ride-hailing is the reliable option for the return.
Are Premium Escapes available from DWC?
