The short answer
Many flights out of Hamad International leave late in the evening or after midnight, and hotels check you out at noon. The good news: Doha is one of the closest cities to its airport of any big hub. Checkout at 11:00 and a flight at 23:00 leaves roughly 9 hours 20 minutes after the two transfers and the 90 minutes back at the terminal, and the transfers here are often shorter than the 35 minutes we count.
First, your bags
- Ask the hotel. Most hotels keep your luggage after checkout until the evening, free of charge. Ask at the front desk the night before.
- Check in early. Some airlines let you check in and drop your bags hours before departure. (VERIFY your airline's early check-in options at Hamad.)
- Left luggage at Hamad. A left-luggage service operates in the terminal for a fee. (VERIFY location and prices.)
Somewhere to shower
- A spa in West Bay. A massage at a five-star hotel spa, with the steam room, sauna and pool before or after. Twenty minutes from the airport, and the quickest way to feel ready for a long flight.
- A lounge inside Hamad. A pay-in lounge with a hot buffet, quiet seating and showers (subject to availability), for the last hours airside.
- A room in the transit area. Once you have checked in and passed security, Hamad has a hotel inside the transit area with day rooms, a pool and a gym. It suits a traveller who can drop bags early. (VERIFY day-room access and rates for departing passengers.)

The transfers are booked separately: taxis, ride-hailing apps and the Doha Metro all reach the airport. Book the dhow for the hour before sunset, which moves through the year. (VERIFY sunset times for your date.)
