Start with the arithmetic
An 8-hour layover is 480 minutes. Allow 45 minutes for immigration and bags, about 35 minutes each way for the transfer and 90 minutes back at the terminal before departure. That leaves roughly 4 hours 35 minutes on the ground, and in Doha the transfer is usually shorter than that, so the margin works in your favour.
Plan A: the old town and the museum
Start at Souq Waqif while it is still quiet, walk the lanes of spice and textile stalls and the falcon souq, then cross to the Museum of Islamic Art on its own island at the end of the Corniche. The park behind the museum has the best view of the West Bay skyline in the city.
Plan B: the story of Qatar
The National Museum of Qatar, built like a desert rose, tells the country's story from the pearl divers to today. Pair it with Katara Cultural Village for an Arabic coffee, and you have seen the Doha most transit passengers never do.
Plan C: the reset
Off a long flight and running on empty? A five-star spa in West Bay is twenty minutes from the terminal: a massage, the steam room, the pool, and you board the next leg feeling human.

What does not fit in 8 hours
The desert. Sealine is about an hour south of the city, and the Inland Sea beyond it needs a full day: plan them for layovers of nine and ten hours or more. Use the planner on the Doha airport page to check your exact window.
